Here are a few facts to consider before deciding if college is right for you.

Common Costs

Going to college costs a lot of money, but it also depends on what college you are going to. If you are attending an in-state college, then the average cost is $8,300. That’s a lot, but it’s nothing compared to out-of-state costs. If you attend a college in another state, then you’ll be paying $19,100 for the same level of service.

Some colleges are even more. For example, the New York University is close to $62,000.

Military Academies

Enlisting in the military can help with your tuition costs. In fact, the military might cover all of your costs, or you can attend one of the five military academies throughout the country. These academies are free, but you have to fully enlist in the military during or after graduating, depending on the institute.

Potential Money

If you can spend several thousand dollars now to make substantially more money during your career, then the investment is worth it. While it depends on many factors, many graduates are able to get jobs that start at around $60,000 to $70,000 a year. As they gain more experience, graduates are expected to make around $120,000 or more a year.

This should be worth it to most people, but there are some that are making more than this without a college degree.

Aside from scholarships, you should also be looking for grants to reduce your college costs. For example, about 60 percent of Harvard students are able to get a large grant that pays for nearly all of the college’s costs. Most students only have to pay around $15,000 because they are able to get financial aid.

Getting a degree can improve your overall salary, but is it worth it? If you’re already making more than $70,000 a year, then it may not be. At the same time, a degree can help you get a better job that makes you happier.
