Ingredient based recipe search



Students are renowned for their bad eating habits, and I myself wasn’t greatest cook around in my university days. Ramen, microwave meals and junk food was my regular diet. It doesn’t have to be though!

There are two great recipe search engines, Supercook and Recipe Puppy.

Recipe search engines finds recipes you can make with only the ingredients you have in your kitchen. Now you might say that your kitchen only consists of instant noodles, bread, milk and so, but if you prepare a small budget for the next month you can stack your pantry nicely. The following is a list of some essential ingredients I put together:

With these ingredients you can make practically anything.

Basics

  • Flour.
  • Sugar.
  • Butter.
  • Eggs.
  • Cornstarch
  • Baking powder and baking soda.
  • Oatmeal.
  • Plain yogurt.
  • Nuts.
  • Rice.
  • Pasta.
  • Cans of crushed tomatoes.
  • Bacon.
  • Some dried mushrooms.
  • Hard cheese.
  • Stock.

Spices, herbs etc.

  • Salt.
  • Pepper.
  • Onions.
  • Garlic.
  • Ginger.
  • Rosemary, Basil, and Oregano.
  • Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Allspice, Cloves, Coriander.
  • Paprika.
  • Natural extracts.

Oils, vinegars etc.

  • Olive oil.
  • Vegetable or canola oil.
  • Lemon oil.
  • Balsamic vinegar.
